James McAvoy still earns 'bonkers' residuals from hit thriller Split... but admits he sees little money from Angelina Jolie blockbuster Wanted

James McAvoy has taken on some incredible roles throughout his three decade career, but there's one role that keeps the money rolling in more than any other.During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this week, the Scottish actor, 47, said that the only movie he makes significant residuals from is the 2016 psychological thriller Split. The film, directed by M Night Shyamalan, had a budget of just $6 million, but went on to make over $278 million at the box office. 'Our first weekend, we made $40 [million], so we made profit. Our first residuals check came at the end of the first weekend,' he explained, calling the success of the movie 'bonkers'.However, McAvoy admitted that he barely sees a dime from most of his other movies, including his 2008 box office hit Wanted with Angelina Jolie. 'You get the odd check for a couple hundred quid here,' he said. 'Sometimes you get checks for, like, 25 cents.'Since starring in Split, McAvoy has appeared in It Chapter Two, Speak No Evil, and His Dark Materials. Many fans also know him from his role as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise. The Glasgow-born performer got his Hollywood break in an episode of the American war drama mini-series Band of Brothers, which aired in 2001. But during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week, McAvoy admitted that he'd felt bullied during filming. 'On my first day on set, there was like a ton of actors. It was one of those scenes with everybody in it, and we're at a bar,' he explained. The conversation was prompted by a cast photo that showed Donnie Wahlberg, Kirk Acevedo, Scott Grimes, Neal McDonough, Adam James, Frank John Hughes and Ross McCall.McAvoy, who was 22 at the time, explained that the tension stemmed from being given more lines to say, while longer-standing members of the cast only had one.'I had a scene and all these guys were in it for like nine months, 10 months, and they get one line in one episode, and one line 10 episodes later. And they were all p***ed,' he said. 'And I come in for one episode and I've got like an arc and scenes. I've got tons of lines,' he continued.'And so, one of the guys in that picture decided to bully me on my first day as a professional actor out of acting school.'McAvoy did not name the actor who he alleges bullied him and 'got his buddies to stand, point and laugh at me for like, three minutes'. He did rule out David Schwimmer as the culprit and said that actors Dexter Fletcher and Robin Laing took him aside and let him 'hang' out with them to get him away from his jeering co-stars. McAvoy played the role of Private First Class James W Miller, who was a real life US soldier, featuring heavily in the episode before being killed in action.Private Miller, 20, was killed by an enemy shell in the Netherlands on September 20, 1944.

Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek recall 'screaming at each other' on set of their new movie as they unveil rollercoaster dynamic

Salma Hayek recalled how she and Angelina Jolie were 'passionately screaming at each other' on the set of their new movie, Without Blood. Jolie and Hayek, who worked as director and actress, respectively, on the film, recently opened up about their unfiltered conversations and the type of dynamic they have with each other. 'I haven't had that kind of connection in my life,' Jolie, 51, told People in an interview published on Saturday. Hayek, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday by stripping down for a nude swim, said they were often 'crying,' 'cracking up' and 'passionately screaming at each other' while filming together in the summer of 2022. She also said their conversations on set were 'delicious' and 'very organic.' 'I love her mind and I get her,' she said about working with Jolie and being directed by her. 'So I think when you know somebody gets you, you feel safe and you can be whoever you are in whatever circumstances,' she added.Jolie, who previously starred alongside Hayek in the 2021 Marvel movie Eternals, also highlighted their connection because of their 'similar' life experiences. 'I think it's so nice we met at this later stage in our life,' Jolie said. 'Because we've both been through so many similar things, experienced different things, and somehow have landed as older women in a very similar place,' she explained. 'Even though I'm much older than her, by the way,' Hayek quipped.'Not that much older,' Jolie responded, laughing. 'To appreciate the friendship and that bond and that understanding, I haven't had that kind of a connection in my life.'
Hayek also concurred, adding: 'It's hard to find that connection, and I think that's what part of the movie is also about, how difficult it is to communicate, to connect.' In their new film Without Blood, which was written, coproduced and directed by Jolie, Hayek stars as Nina, opposite Demián Bechir's character Tito. The war drama is based on Alessandro Baricco's same-name novel. The plot follows a woman named Nina who survived a war and seeks revenge decades after a tragic family massacre. 'Sometimes we would start passionately screaming at each other,' Hayek recalled about her interactions with her director while filming the movie. 'Then I start crying and she hugs me, then we're laughing nonstop,' she continued. 'And from the outside, I could see people say, "What's going on?"'  Hayek also said she 'can say whatever' to Jolie. 'She's never offended because it's coming from me. And we're talking about issues, and then we start crying because we're moved, not because we made each other cry... And then we say something stupid and we start cracking up.' Without Blood first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 before receiving a theatrical release in Italy the following April. The film premiered in theaters across the United States on Friday.

Angelina Jolie is joined by daughter Zahara, 21, at Without Blood screening as they step out as Maddox, 25, legally drops Brad Pitt's last name

Angelina Jolie and her daughter Zahara put on a united front at the Without Blood screening on Monday after her son Maddox legally dropped Brad Pitt's last name. The Hollywood actress, 51 was joined by her glamorous daughter, 21, to celebrate her new movie at East Village in New York. Jolie wowed in a sophisticated black suit and gold bralette while Zahara oozed elegance in a halterneck knot dress.Without Blood, which is set to release September 18, is billed as a 'parable-like tale exploring themes of family, war, and revenge'. Stars of the movie Salma Hayek and Demian Bichir were greeted by fans as they made their arrival. 'Alessandro Baricco's Without Blood examines universal truths about trauma, memory and healing,' director Jolie shared. 'The emotional intimacy and openness that our cast and crew brought to this film was extraordinary and exciting to be around. 'I hope that Salma and Demián's brave performances will inspire the type of conversation that Baricco sought in writing the novel.' The mother and daughter outing comes just days after Maddox became the latest child out of Jolie's brood to drop Pitt's last name. Maddox, 25, has legally removed Pitt from his moniker, following in the footsteps of his younger sibling Shiloh, 20. Meanwhile, Zahara and fraternal twins Vivienne and Knox, 18, have informally stopped using their dad's surname, with plans to legalize the change. A Los Angeles judge granted the name change on Monday, officially making their son's name Maddox Chivan Jolie, per Page Six. 'There are no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,' the court order reviewed by the outlet states. 'The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner’s name is changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.' Maddox attended the Stanley Mosk Courthouse hearing remotely, alongside attorney Peter Levine.Earlier this year, Maddox and Zahara published legal notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal declaring their intent to drop their father's last name.
Zahara graduate has a scheduled name change hearing on September 28. In July 2024, Shiloh's attorney made a statement about her decision to drop her 62-year-old dad's last name. She filed for the change on her birthday in May, and it was publicly announced with a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times. Regarding the publicity of the proceeding, Shiloh's lawyer, the aforementioned Levine, shared that she 'made an independent and significant decision following painful events'. He added that she was 'merely following legal process' when publishing the information. One month after Shiloh filed to drop his last name, a source revealed to People that Pitt's relationship with his older kids remained strained. 'He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule,' the insider shared at the time. Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000-2005. He famously moved on with Jolie, now 51, his Mr and Mrs Smith co-star. They split in 2016 following a 12-year relationship and two-year marriage, with their divorce finalised eight years later in December 2024. The contentious exes are in an ongoing legal battle stemming from a disagreement regarding their shared French winery, Château Miraval. Pitt claims Jolie sold her stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler behind his back, breaking an agreement that they would not sell without the other's knowledge. The actor has been in a relationship with jewellery designer Ines de Ramon, 33, since 2022.

Angelina Jolie makes glamorous appearance at film screening in NYC after another one of her kids dropped ex Brad Pitt's surname

Angelina Jolie looked every bit the movie star on Tuesday as she stepped out in New York City - just days after it was revealed that another one of her kids dropped her ex Brad Pitt's surname. The Oscar-winner, 51, was greeted by a sea of fans and photographers outside the five-star Whitby Hotel ahead of a screening of her latest film Couture. She modeled a strapless black gown with a plunging neckline and elegant draping. Her dyed blonde hair was styled in voluminous waves and she concealed her blue eyes behind a pair of aviator sunglasses. The mother-of-six accessorized with dangly gold earrings and a sleek gold wrist watch. Jolie was accompanied by several buff bodyguards as she arrived at the screening venue in a chauffeured SUV.Couture sees Jolie play an American filmmaker who ventures to Paris Fashion Week where she learns she has breast cancer. The film is deeply personal to Jolie, who underwent a preventative double mastectomy back in 2013.She did so after discovering she carries a genetic mutation that dramatically increases the chance of being diagnosed with potentially fatal breast cancer. The mutation in her BRCA1 gene left Jolie with an estimated 87 per cent risk of breast cancer and 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer. She lost her mother Marcheline Bertrand to ovarian and breast cancer in 2007. Her grandmother and aunt also passed away from cancer. Jolie mentioned her late mother while speaking to PEOPLE on Tuesday, with the star admitting that she 'would have given anything to have [her] mother alive to be there for her grandchildren.' She also gave rare insight on her emotional well-being as she revealed how Couture 'resonates' with her. 'The film is not about an end for my character but rather about a renewed desire to live life until your last breath which particularly resonates with me at this time in my life. 'I am not sure I was strong enough even five years ago to do this. To be open and trusting to share and be vulnerable again,' Jolie said. 'Things happen in life that take us off path. We lose ourselves and we feel isolated.' Jolie praised Couture as a 'beautifully written piece about women from different countries' and that she believes the film 'has something to say that [she] thought could be useful to people.' She said it shows 'how everyone is dealing with things that make us very human, and that if we can figure out how to live through challenges by leaning on each other and having more empathy towards one another, the better and less alone we will be.' Jolie also made sure to applaud director Alice Winocour for approaching 'the stories of the women in Couture with sensitivity and hope.' Couture is set to hit theaters on June 26, less than a year after it made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. Jolie's NYC outing comes shortly after it was revealed that her and Pitt's youngest son Knox dropped the actor's last name from his high school diploma. The 17-year-old removed the last name of Pitt as he graduated from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles earlier this month, per Page Six. Instead, the teen's name was simply listed as Knox Jolie on the official certificate.
Knox was cheered on by his mother Angelina Jolie at the graduation ceremony as well as brother Pax, twin sister Vivienne and sister Zahara. Pitt and Jolie were previously married from 2014 until their divorce became legal in 2019. And in late 2024, it was revealed that the former couple had reached a divorce settlement following a lengthy, eight-year battle. The two stars share three biological children Shiloh, 20, as well as twins Knox and Vivienne. They also share Maddox, 24, Pax, 22 and Zahara, 21. It was also recently revealed by InTouch that Pitt and Jolie's daughter Zahara was making legal moves to remove Pitt from her last name. The next day, TMZ obtained a petition Zahara filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, where she asked for her new legal name to be Zahara Marley Jolie. She has not been using Pitt's last name for many years. Pitt was notably absent from her name when she joined a sorority at Spelman College three years ago. And in May, Zahara did not use the name Pitt when graduating from Spelman College. Jolie had also been in attendance at the ceremony. Another source told TMZ that Pitt thinks Jolie is keeping their children from seeing him. Jolie and Pitt were raising six children together before she filed for divorce in 2016. Their kids Shiloh, Maddox, and Vivienne have also stopped using Pitt's last name. It is not known if Pax has stopped using the name as well. It was confirmed by the Daily Mail back in May that Maddox requested to legally remove 'Pitt' from his surname. He is changing his full name to Maddox Chivan Jolie and listed the reasoning as 'personal.' Back in 2024, Vivienne also dropped her dad's last name in a Playbill credit for The Outsiders. That same year, Shiloh dropped Pitt from her name shortly after her 18th birthday. At the time, a source told the Daily Mail: 'He knew this was coming and there is nothing he can do about it right now.'It's sad but Brad's strained relationship with his kids and Angelina is just a way of life for him now.' However, the insider further explained that the actor has always left the door open if his estranged children wanted to reconnect. 'He respects Shiloh's decision. He loves her and no matter what happens, he is always only a phone call away. 'He will be there for Shiloh and any of his kids whenever they need, no questions asked. But it's up to them to make the next move.'A separate source stated that Pitt 'knows that, with some of the other kids who are not biologically his children, they do not understand and may never allow him back into their lives.' Back in 2016, Pitt and Jolie's relationship came to an explosive end after the pair got into an alleged physical altercation while on a private flight with their six kids. Jolie later claimed that Pitt 'choked' one of the children during the horrifying dispute and 'struck' another in the face, leaving her and the kids feeling like 'hostages' and cowering in fear under a blanket for hours until they landed. She also alleged that he grabbed her by the head, slammed her against a wall, and violently shook her at one point during the flight - which resulted in her injuring her back and elbow. Pitt's rep called Jolie's account 'completely untrue' to CNN at first, but then released an amended statement to the publication that read, 'Angelina's story continues to evolve each time she tells it.'Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn't do. He has been on the receiving end of every type of personal attack and misrepresentation. 'Thankfully, the various public authorities she has tried to use against him over the past six years have made their own independent decisions.' The statement at the time also read, 'Brad will continue to respond in court as he has consistently done.' The F1 actor has been romantically linked to Ines de Ramon since 2022.

One evening, when she was being asked about her chemotherapy, she became very emotional and told me she would have preferred to talk about something else; she felt as though the illness was becoming her entire identity.'I love this film because it tells a story that goes far beyond the journey of a sick person: it shows life. It was this luminous perspective that touched me and made me want to play this role.'In May 2013, Angelina had both breasts surgically removed and then underwent reconstructive surgery after discovering she carries a genetic mutation that dramatically increases the chance of being diagnosed with potentially fatal breast cancer. The mutation in her BRCA1 gene left the mother-of-six with an estimated 87 per cent risk of breast cancer and 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer
