Angelina Jolie exuded elegance as she arrived for day two of the 40th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday night. The A-list actress, 49, is this year's Maltin Modern Master Award recipient, which is the film festival's 'highest honor.'Named after film critic Leonard Maltin, the award goes to actors who have 'enriched our culture through accomplishments in the motion picture industry,' as per the official website. The award comes amid acclaim for Jolie's portrayal of late opera singer Maria Callas in the Pablo Larraín-directed biopic Maria.Despite critics calling it a 'career-high' performance for Jolie, she failed to pick up an Oscar nomination in the 2025 race. But the mother-of-six looked unbothered by the snub as she worked the film festival's invite-only red carpet ahead of the award ceremony. For the occasion, Jolie went braless under a silky off-white gown that highlighted her slender frame. The backless frock also showed off her impressive back tattoo collection. Her dyed-blonde hair flowed down her chest in wavy strands as she posed for photographers.Jolie strolled the venue in black stiletto heels and accessorized with a silver thumb ring.As for makeup, the Changeling star rocked grungy eyeshadow, peach blush and a glossy lip. Before heading inside the award ceremony, Jolie put on an animated display speaking to reporters on the red carpet. The star flashed a warm smile as she chatted with an official Santa Barbara International Film Festival correspondent.Jolie will be presented the Maltin Modern Master Award by a 'special guest' after an hour-and-a-half long retrospective on her career.Jolie herself will discuss her film accomplishments with a moderator while looking back at her most iconic roles and performances from the last 30 years, as per the Santa Barbara International Film Festival website. The celebratory night proved to be a star-studded affair as the likes of Kathy Ireland and Ava DuVernay showed up in support of Jolie.Ireland looked chic in an all-black outfit that included a glamorous coat and silky blouse. The legendary Sports Illustrated model, 61, opted for natural glam makeup and wore her brunette hair in a voluminous blowout.DuVernay wowed onlookers in a demure black frock with bright white details on the seams.Film producer Jill Campbell rocked a chic high-neck floral frock styled with a black motorcycle jacket. Jolie's appearance at Wednesday night's event in Santa Barbara comes weeks after she learned she did not earn a Best Actress Oscar nod for Maria.Jolie — who became an Oscar-winner 25 years ago — poured herself into the 'personal' role by learning to sing opera and even endured a grueling Hollywood press cycle to promote the Netflix film.eing ignored by the Academy could 'devastate' Jolie, 49, as she desperately 'wanted to get nominated,' a source told Page Six when the nominations were announced last month.'Angelina will be devastated … look at all the press she did for the film — she wanted to get nominated,' the source dished.'She did Jimmy Fallon, her first late-night show in over a decade. She even went to the Gotham awards. She did all these magazine covers.' An anonymous Hollywood awards expert told the outlet that the lack of acknowledgement from the Academy 'wasn't great for Angelina – or Netflix,' who produced Maria' and that the actress will 'undoubtedly be upset.'A different insider speculated that Jolie's snub was related to her bitter divorce from fellow Oscar-winner Brad Pitt, which was finalized in December after an eight-year battle. They argued that Jolie is highly favored by the foreign press while Brad remains Hollywood's golden boy. While she did earn a Best Actress nod at the recent Golden Globes, the coveted honor ultimately went to acclaimed Brazilian star Fernanda Torres for I'm Still Here. 'This just shows that Hollywood is Team Brad,' the source claimed. 'The Globes showed that the foreign press loves her, but that's not Hollywood. Nobody was going to go against Brad and give Angelina a vote … people just love Brad.'Another source pointed out that while social 'politics' can come into play at awards season, the Academy decided to nominate a slew of first-timers instead of past winners like Angelina and Nicole Kidman, whose performance in the erotic thriller Babygirl was also ignored.'The divorce is done, and yes, politics do come into play a little alongside the films and the performances. But the fact is that there are a lot of first-time nominees shows that we still have a healthy industry,' the source told the outlet.
Instead of Angelina and Nicole, Demi Moore (The Substance), Cynthia Erivo, (Wicked), Mikey Madison (Anora), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez) and Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here) will battle it out in the Best Actress category at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2.Maria marked Jolie's long-awaited return to the big screen after a years-long hiatus spent honing her directorial skills and spending time with her six children. The film, which had a limited theatrical release before premiering on Netflix in December, follows 'Maria Callas (Jolie), who lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, as she confronts her identity and life,' as per IMDb.Last month, Jolie told Times Radio that playing the late opera singer forced her to look inside herself.'I think you're an artist, and you go through different things in life, and you wonder if certain parts of you have shut down, or who you are, what you have inside of you, and if your lights dimmed, and if you have less to contribute, or if you don't know your yourself, and so to push and rediscover things and try for things that I hadn't ever tried,' the Oscar-winning star explained.'And what a gift as an artist, to be pushed again at this time in my life, to do something that terrified me and I wasn't sure I could do is the greatest gift.' While at the Golden Globes on January 5, Jolie admitted that she was initially 'really scared' of letting Callas' fans and family down with her portrayal.'Failing Maria Callas and the people who loved her really scared me,' she said. 'This was a big fear, but it's fun. I mean, what are we alive for if not to confront our fears and get our hearts pumping and you know try things we're not sure of.'Jolie declared: 'This is my decade of do what scares you.'Days before her appearance at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, Jolie reached a settlement in her divorce from Brad — eight years after she first filed papers, citing 'irreconcilable differences'.The Girl, Interrupted star is 'exhausted' and 'relieved' that 'this one part' of the family's 'healing' journey is done and dusted.Angelina's lawyer James Simon told PEOPLE: 'More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt.

Angelina Jolie has learned to speak French fluently. The 49-year-old actress picked up the romance language for her role as Maxine in the new movie Stitches about Fashion Week. The star is filming the movie now in Paris in both English and French. That means with each scene, she has to speak her lines in two languages.Angelina has already spoken French before in the 2004 movie Taking Lives, but it was a brief scene. Jolie's mother Marcheline Bertrand was of French Canadian descent and may have taught her daughter conversational French, though it is not clear how well she spoke it. The movie is scheduled to come out in 2025. This comes after the mother of six learned to sing opera to play Maria Callas in the bio film Maria. Stitches costars Louis Garrel and is from director Alice Winocour. It is 'set in the world of high fashion and unfolds in Paris,' according to Variety. This ties in nicely with the fashion design businesses the actress is supporting under her banner Atelier Jolie. Angelina has been seen on set with her son Maddox who is working on the movie too. Her 23-year-old son has been hired as the third assistant director on the film set in the world of high fashion, DailyMail.com has learned. He has already been on set with his Oscar-winning mom aiding her as she does night shoots in the rain. The son of Angelina and her ex-husband Brad Pitt has worked on films before. He was involved with his mother's projects Maria, Without Blood, By The Sea and First They Killed My Father. Maddox had enrolled in Yonsei University but appears to be spending most of his time working on films now.Maddox worked as an assistant director on this film, which is about opera singer Maria Callas' final days in 1970s Paris. Jolie is getting Oscar buzz for her role as she learned how to sing opera for the part. Maddox has said that he enjoys working with his mom and that she's 'fun, funny, and easy to work with'. He's also said that he pitched in on meetings, prepped for shoots, and helped review dailies.
Several of Angelina's other children have worked with her. Pax has served as a photographer on Maria. And Vivienne was a big part of bringing The Outsiders to Broadway this year. She was also in Maleficent. Zahara has also been on the set of Stitches. In the past she has worked on projects for Angie's shop Atelier Jolie. Maria was a lot of work for Jolie. In Maria she played the iconic Greek opera singer during her final days in the 1970s. The movie world premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was celebrated by a eight-minute standing ovation. Jolie in being talked up to be nominated for Best Actress Oscar. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 for Girl, Interrupted. She was last nominated in 2009 for The Changeling. Jolie has admitted winning an Oscar for Maria would be a bonus. The actress had the 'experience of a lifetime' starring in Pablo Larraín's biographical psychological drama about diva Maria, and although the Oscar hype is 'very nice', she feels like she has already been given 'the greatest gift' of making a movie with an 'extraordinary team of people' and anything else is a 'dream'. Asked about the Oscar buzz surrounding her film, she laughed to Best UK magazine: 'It means a lot that somebody thinks you did a good job. Right? That means everything to me. 'That kind of stuff is exciting and very, very nice. But I'm just so happy we were able to do this film. I'm genuinely so happy. 'I know it sounds like people say this, but really, this was an experience of a lifetime. I learned to sing and I embodied a woman that I respect. I was able to work with this extraordinary team of people. I feel like I've already been given the greatest gift. 'The audience seemed to respond well to it. So, anything else is a dream, but I'm so grateful already.'
