Brad Pitt ordered to hand over documents that could prove he was abusive towards Angelina Jolie and kids

Angelina Jolie has scored a major legal victory against ex-husband Brad Pitt after a judge ruled that he must hand over documents and communications which could prove he was abusive towards the actress and their children. The former A-List couple seem determined to dredge up the past and throw everything they can at each other amid their acrimonious legal battle for their French vineyard. The ongoing dispute has seen the feuding exes attack each other in legal filings ever since Pitt sued Jolie in 2022 for selling her stake in their Chateau Miraval estate, which produces an award-winning sparkling rosé.Legal filings seen by DailyMail.com show that the communications Pitt, 60, has been ordered to produce begins the day Jolie claims he abused her on a private plane shortly before their separation in 2016.She previously accused him of pouring red wine and beer over his ex and one of the couple's children on a private plane.Pitt has always denied being abusive and was cleared by law enforcement following an investigation – though his ex-wife claimed in filings that his 'history of physical abuse' started 'well before' the plane incident.Jolie, 49, asked the court to force her ex-husband to disclose anything between September 14, 2016 to December 31, 2018.That will include emails, texts and other written communications, but nothing between him and his attorneys or therapists. The Maleficent actress filed documents in July claiming that the actor tried to force her to sign an $8.5million NDA to cover up 'years of abuse.'At the same time, her legal team asked that the court compel Pitt to disclose 'private, third-party communications' he had about their family's 2016 plane ride that resulted in Jolie filing for divorce.Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lia Martin issued the ruling last Monday, after Jolie's lawyers claimed that the documents would prove her claims Pitt tried to make her sign an NDA.She claims that the gag order would have prevented her from speaking out about the alleged abuse, amid a verbal agreement she would sell her half of the winery to Pitt.Jolie's lawyers claim that the documents will prove 'communications concerning abuse, lies to authorities, and years of cover up' on Pitt's part.Pitt's legal team sought for the motion to be denied, claiming the requests were 'wide-ranging and intrusive'.
The actors' lawyers also branded the filing as a 'sensationalist fishing expedition', with sources calling the latest ruling 'irrelevant', as the acter has provided 'so much information already'.Paul Murphy, a lawyer for Jolie, branded the documents as 'crucial evidence' that Pitt has 'fought for years to hide.'In a statement he said: 'His actions harmed Angelina and their children and are central to this case.'But I want to again emphasize that Angelina never wanted any of this. She never pressed charges, she left all their properties, and she is the one who tried to sell him the business in the first place.'To this day, Mr. Pitt has never been held accountable for his actions and has at all times controlled Miraval and the winery, yet he still demands more. She wants this to end, the children want this to end, and Mr. Pitt should focus on healing their family, not pursuing lawsuits.'It comes after Pitt himself scored a major legal victory, with Judge Martin throwing out Jolie's attempt to dismiss the lawsuit.'It's already been ugly but it's going to get even uglier as Angie will insist on retaliating against Brad and trying to settle old more personal scores,' an insider told DailyMail.com.'And it's going to get costlier too – with their legal wrangling already costing both sides millions.'Court filings suggest that the judge has found a basis in Pitt's claims that their original verbal agreement was binding, and Jolie may have violated them when she sold her shares to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler and his Stoli Group in 2021.Pitt's lawyers say that Jolie violated their deal to not sell their stakes in Miraval without both parties' permission. With the dismissal of the three filings, the former A-List couple - who wed at the Provence, Southern France estate in 2014 and split in 2016 – are set to face off in court at the trial next year.Pitt filed the $67million lawsuit against Jolie in 2022, less than a year after the shares were sold.
Jolie faces potential damages claims if she does not undo the deal she made with Yuri Shefler regarding the sale of her Miraval stake. Her frustration over Pitt being awarded joint custody of their children in 2021, suggests the dispute has become highly personal for the pair, going beyond the original business matter.Jolie has also been accused of trying to drive a wedge between her estranged husband and their six kids in the aftermath of their split. Pitt's team claims she believes her deal with Shefler was 'justified' due to the NDA her ex-husband asked her to sign. She was dealt another blow earlier this year after the court ruled, she must produce every NDA that she signed with a third-party over an eight-year period from 2014 - the year they married - to 2022.NDAs have become a key battleground in the dispute over Chateau Miraval after Jolie claims she backed out of their agreement because Pitt asked her to sign one as part of their business deal. She claims that it was an 'unconscionable' attempt by her ex-partner to 'control her' after their split in April 2019, with his lawyers asking LA Superior Court to unwind the sale because of their agreement to not sell to a third party. But Pitts attorneys have argued that Jolie's NDA objection was really just a cover story which she cooked-up to 'rationalize' her betrayal of Pitt by deciding to sell her stake behind his back. The Fight Club star's attorneys also claim that Jolie herself 'weaponized' NDAs, and asked for Pitt to sign a broader NDA just six months later as part of their divorce settlement talks.Pitt's legal team asked in previous filings that she come clean about NDAs she entered into with third parties including staff.Pitt has landed several legal victories in the battle for the winery including a key judgement in Luxembourg which handed him back control of the award-winning vineyard pending further hearings. In March, LA Superior Court rejected the allegations that his suit was 'frivolous, malicious, and part of a problematic pattern.

Angelina Jolie says being a parent is 'everything' to her amid ongoing divorce battle with Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie gushed that being a parent is 'everything' to her amid her ongoing divorce battle with ex-husband, Brad Pitt. The Maleficent actress, 49, opened up about motherhood during an interview with The Sunday Times while promoting her upcoming film, Maria. The star — who has ignited Oscars buzz over her portrayal of late opera singer Maria Callas in the biopic — shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, as well as twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, with Pitt. The pair married in 2014, but filed for divorce in 2016 before being declared legally single in 2019. However, Angelina and Brad are set to head to trial next year amidst a legal battle over their French vineyard. While talking to The Times about playing Callas in the Netflix movie, she also reflected on the singer's loneliness over the years.'I don't feel that because I have family,' Jolie expressed. 'Maria didn't have a family, so her work was everything. My work is not everything. Being a parent is everything.'The actress added that she is, 'grateful this film gave me a time to stop and learn and listen and appreciate.' Brad is notably estranged from his six children - with both Shiloh and Vivienne dropping the last name of Pitt. A source recently told People that his kids haven't spent 'extensive time' with the actor's own parents for over five years. The insider continued that his six children only have 'limited' contact with Brad's side of the family - but a separate source close to Jolie shared a differing viewpoint on the situation. 'Angelina has not blocked any communications or relationships; rather she encourages them to be in touch with their grandparents.''The kids send cards and gifts to their grandparents every year for their birthdays and Christmas,' the insider explained to the outlet. Earlier this month, Angelina attended the 2024 Governors Awards with son Knox as her guest. But Brad - who is amidst an ongoing divorce battle with Jolie - found it 'suspicious' that Knox made a rare public appearance with his mother on the red carpet.A source told DailyMail.com, 'Brad only gets to see his children when they walk on the carpet with their mom and the timing of this could not be any more suspicious considering it was just decided that he and Angie are headed to trial.''She is trying to get under his skin after his recent win and using Knox to do so is odd. Knox wants nothing to do with Hollywood and has no communication with Brad.'
The insider added, 'Of course, it bothers him that Angelina has turned them against him.'Jolie 'did this while they were all young and they didn’t even get a chance to make up their minds about him. He believes that, in time, his children will come back into his life.'However, a separate source stated, 'Knox chose to attend the awards with his mom, and they had a nice mother-son evening. Their decision to attend together did not have anything to do with Brad.'Elsewhere in her interview with The Sunday Times, Jolie talked about her children Maddox and Pax also helping out on the film, Maria, as production assistants. 'They were able to consider the relationships in the film and the violence - things that sometimes you don’t have the opportunity to discuss with your sons, so I felt fortunate.' And while previously speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in August, she further reflected on her kids having the chance to gain experience on set. 'Mad and Pax were on this one. Doing AD [assistant directing] work. They've done that quite a few times, and I think that's good for them,' she stated. 'Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and [director] Pablo was wonderful and recognized that he was good at it.'Angelina also revealed the reason why she decided to step back in front of the camera - and explained that she didn't need to be home as much for her kids.'They're a bit older, getting more independent. I'm less needed and so able to go away for different periods of time.'She added, 'And they're old enough to join me at work. It's a new season in our lives. I'm very excited for them to be coming into their own more and more every day.'Maria was directed by Pablo Larrain - who is behind other projects such as Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).Along with Jolie, other stars that have been cast in the film include Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer and Kodi Smit-McPhee.In August, the biopic first premiered during the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion.
The movie had a limited theatrical release in the United States beginning on November 27 - and will drop on Netflix on December 11.The premise of the film is: 'Maria Callas, the world's greatest opera singer, lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, as she confronts her identity and life,' per an IMDB synopsis. In October, the official trailer for Maria was released - and quickly ignited Oscars buzz among fans.On the topic of Callas being called a diva, Angelina explained to The Times that she has the aim to change the negative perception towards the word 'diva.' 'I'm a hard worker. And a deeply feeling person. Maria is vulnerable because she feels and isn't sometimes able to protect herself from the loneliness or emotional pain.' 'Because it's part of her life and work to be extremely human and live that way. You live through your communication with the audience. For Maria and for me that has always been extremely important,' the star said. Director Pablo Larrain also took part in the interview to discuss the movie - and shared he felt the late opera singer would have garnered different treatment if she had been a man. 'She was a strong woman at a time when that wasn’t really tolerated. But this movie is also an act of respect to her - she was stoic and strong, she was betrayed but she always stood on her own two feet, trying to do her art until she couldn't.'  He also talked about wanting to bring the world of opera to a larger audience. 'Angie and I often talk about Callas's music bringing opera to more people.''Maria Callas cared about the art form but she also wanted to connect with people. So hopefully this can get rid of elitism and bring people back to opera.' Towards the end of the interview, Angelina was asked what a biopic about herself would be like - if one were ever made. 'That gets the most insane question award,' she began.'When you're a public person and you're playing her, you're conscious of how you would hate for somebody to interpret your life or think they understand your life, so we tried to be thoughtful. Let's hope there isn't one about my life.'

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie set to face off in court as long-running battle over their Miraval winery heads to trial

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are set to face-off in court next year as their long-running legal battle or so-called 'War of the Rosé' heads to trial, DailyMail.com can reveal. The feuding exes are now due to come face to face after a judge recently threw out the Oscar-winning actress's motion to dismiss her ex-husband's lawsuit over their French vineyard. The Chateau Miraval estate, which produces an award-winning sparkling rosé, is at the center of a long-running court battle between the pair. She argues that the agreement had been nullified after Pitt requested she sign an NDA regarding their marriage – with both sides seemingly determined to throw everything at the case.'It's already been ugly but it's going to get even uglier as Angie is bent on retaliating against Brad and will try to continue to settle more old personal scores,' an insider close to the case told DailyMail.com.And it's going to get costlier too – with their legal wrangling already costing both sides millions. The latest twist in the acrimonious lawsuit has seen LA Superior Court Judge Lia Martin throw out the motions.Court filings submitted last week suggest that the judge has found a basis in Pitt's claims that their original verbal agreement was binding, and Jolie may have violated them when she sold her shares to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler and his Stoli Group in 2021.Pitt's lawyers say that Jolie violated the couple's deal to not sell their respective stakes in Miraval without both parties' permission. With the dismissal of the three filings, the former power couple - who wed at the Provence, Southern France estate in 2014 and split in 2016 – are set to face off in court at the trial next year.A source close to the actor told DailyMail.com: 'This is a straightforward business dispute, but unfortunately, the other side has consistently introduced personal elements which have exposed the weaknesses in their case and complicated and lengthened the proceedings.'The Maleficent star will have 30 days to appeal the judge's decision in filings at Los Angeles Superior Court last week.Pitt filed the $67million lawsuit against Jolie in 2022, less than a year after the shares were sold, setting off a protracted court battle between the exes.  But Judge Martin's decision to dismiss Jolie's final three claims against Pitt has put him firmly back in the driving seat ahead of a trial next year. This latest court ruling represents another pre-trial victory for Pitt, adding to his momentum in the ongoing legal battle.Jolie faces potential damages claims if she does not undo the deal she made with Yuri Shefler regarding the sale of her Miraval stake. With her frustration over Pitt being awarded joint custody of their children in 2021, the dispute appears to have turned highly personal for the pair, going beyond the original business matter.
Jolie has also been accused of trying to drive a wedge between her estranged husband and their six kids in the aftermath of their split.Pitt's team claims she believes her deal with Shefler was 'justified' due to the NDA her ex-husband asked her to sign. She was dealt another blow earlier this year after the court ruled she must produce every NDA that she signed with a third-party over an eight-year period from 2014 - the year they married - to 2022.NDAs have become a key battleground in the dispute over Chateau Miraval after Jolie claims she backed out of their agreement because Pitt asked her to sign one as part of their business deal. The Fight Club star's attorneys also claim that Jolie herself 'weaponized' NDAs, and asked for Pitt to sign a broader NDA just six months later as part of their divorce settlement talks.Pitt's legal team asked in previous filings that she come clean about NDAs she entered into with third parties including staff. At the time Paul Murphy, one of Jolie's attorneys, told DailyMail.com that the judge's order also opens the window for the actress to demand documents related to Pitt's alleged abuses.'We are more than happy to turn them over and we are gratified that the Court acknowledged that the only potential relevance is to the unconscionability of Mr. Pitt's conduct, a now confirmed key issue in this case,' he said. He continued: 'The judge's ruling completely opens the door to discovery on all issues related to Pitt's abuse. We welcome that transparency in all parties' discovery responses, including Mr. Pitt's.A source close to Brad, however, said Jolie's decision to use the NDA as a strategy 'has backfired spectacularly.''Her defense has been exposed as a house of cards, and she will now have to provide details of all the NDAs she demanded of third parties.'There is no question that this is a huge setback for her. There's a long way to go, but in the context of the case so far, this is a hugely important and far-reaching ruling which will be problematic for her defense,' the source added.Pitt has landed several legal victories in the battle for the winery including a key judgement in Luxembourg which handed him back control of the award-winning vineyard pending further hearings. In March, LA Superior Court rejected the allegations that his suit was 'frivolous, malicious, and part of a problematic pattern.'

Angelina Jolie says she has a 'soft and emotional side' she hides from the world... after crying at Maria premiere

Angelina Jolie has played a lot of tough characters on the big screen, such as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and Evelyn Salt in Salt. But in real life, the 49-year-old Oscar winning actress is actually soft, she said while at the Venice Film Festival. When asked by a reporter how she related to opera singer Maria Callas, whom Jolie is playing in a new Netflix movie titled Maria, she explained.'I think the way I related to her may be a surprise — [it was] probably the part of her that's extremely soft,' said Jolie at a panel on Thursday, according to People. The star continued, 'And she doesn't have room in the world to be as soft as she truly was, and as emotionally open as she truly was.'Jolie was hinting that she has hidden her soft side due to her enormous fame. This comes after Jolie shed tears when she received an eight minute standing ovation for her film Maria. The mother of six was seen wiping away tears as the claps continued. Jolie also said during her panel that she worked very hard to star as Callas in a movie. She said she spent almost seven months training her voice so she could sing opera because she does not want to 'disappoint' Maria's fans. And she was asked about the word diva, which is what Callas was called.'I think it's often come with a lot of negative connotations,' said Jolie.'I think I've re-learned that word through Maria... and I have a new relationship to it.'I think it is often other people's perception of a woman that defines, sometimes too much, who she is and who she was, or what she intended,' she added.'And I actually think [Maria] was one of the hardest-working people, who didn't hurt anybody.'So I suppose it's everybody in this room that makes that definition sometimes, but the true definition may be [that] the great composers define it differently,' Jolie said.
Netflix has acquired the rights to Maria, but a release date has not yet been announced. Earlier Jolie said she got her sons to block the door of her rehearsal room when she was training to sing like Maria Callas. The Maleficent actress said: 'Everybody here knows I was terribly nervous about the singing. 'I spent almost seven months training because when you work with (director) Pablo (Larrain) you can't do anything by half.'He demands in a most wonderful way that that you really do the work and really learn and train.'My first time singing I was so nervous that my sons were there and they helped to block the door so that nobody else was coming in.'And I was shaky. Pablo in his decency started me in a small room and ended me in La Scala.'So he gave me a time to grow. I was frightened to live up to her and you know I had not sung in public.'Angelina plays Maria when the singing icon was nearing death and losing her voice. The opera legend is still idolized as the greatest voice in the history of opera and died in 1977 aged 53 after a spell of illness and isolation.Angelina's grueling role comes as she continues to battle her Fight Club ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60, over the custody of their six children and over the shares she sold in their Château Miraval winery in France. The actress filed for divorce from Brad in 2016 and the pair were awarded joint custody of their kids by a judge in May 2021.After the ruling, Angelina decided to sell her chunk of her and Brad's vineyard, which has plunged them into an epic and complex legal battle.A source has told Page Six Brad is refusing to let go of the fight over the business as he sees it as an asset for his children. The insider added: 'It's important that people realize that Brad's motivation is to ensure that his kids can maximize the benefit of this asset.'Once it was sold, that's no longer the case and it significantly decreased their inheritance.'

Angelina Jolie declines to speak about Brad Pitt divorce in new interview: 'I'm trying to get used to what to share'

Angelina Jolie politely declined to answer a question about her and Brad Pitt's ongoing divorce in a new sit-down interview with The Hollywood Reporter. While speaking with reporter Rebecca Keegan, at her $25 million Los Feliz home, the Oscar winner, 49, drew 'firm boundaries' around a number of subjects, including her split from Pitt and their 20-year-old son Pax's recent, near-fatal e-bike accident. The Maleficent star explained to the publication that years ago in Hollywood 'you could have this messy private process and the work spoke.' 'Now, the audience's relationship is different. I'm trying to get used to what to share,' she admitted after taking a long hiatus from the industry. When asked by Keegan if it would be okay to 'ask what the status of' her divorce is, the actress replied: 'No.' Later, she opened up about having to remain in California until her and Pitt's six children all turn 18. The former couple share Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and Shiloh, 18 and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.'I grew up in this town [Los Angeles]. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave,' she told THR.The mother-of-six continued: 'When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.' After her youngest two children become legal adults, Jolie says she plans on spending 'a lot of time in Cambodia' and visiting her 'family members wherever they may be in the world.'When asked who are her close friends and who she would call at 3 a.m., the performer said she doesn't 'really have those kinds of relationships.''Maybe it's losing your parent young. Maybe it's working. Maybe it's being somebody who's been betrayed a lot. I don't have a lot of those warm, close relationships as much that I lean on,' she said. 'But I have a few, and a few is enough.' Jolie listed Loung Ung as one of her 'closest friends' and her late mom, Marcheline Bertrand, who passed away in 2007.'My mother was very close to me. I lost her. I've had a few friends over the years not be there for my family in their hour of need. I have a couple of people that I trust.'
In 2016, Jolie began doing less film work and only agreeing to take jobs that didn't require long shoots as she focused on 'healing' and the end of her marriage. While reflecting on why she waited 'so long' since she last acted or directed, the star explained she 'needed to be home more' with her kids.'They're a bit older, getting more independent. I'm less needed and so able to go away for different periods of time. And they're old enough to join me at work. It's a new season in our lives. I'm very excited for them to be coming into their own more and more every day,' she said of what made her feel ready to return to work. As for whether she has any writing rituals, Jolie noted that she usually writes 'when everyone is asleep' so she can focus.Although she has a tendency to keep her personal life out of the spotlight, Jolie said 'one of the nicest things — maybe the only nice thing — about being a public person' is connecting with 'other people.''I realized when I came into this business, doing things like Gia or Girl, Interrupted, and I expressed so much of my madness and my pain. When people connected to it, I felt less alone. So if somebody were to talk to me about having gone through breast cancer or losing their parent, then I feel more deeply connected with another human being,' the actress explained.Jolie added: 'To go into a room full of people you don't know, and have a lot in common very quickly because somehow you've been in their home on the television or you made their children laugh or they know something personal, that's really nice.' Jolie and Pitt have been hashing out the details of their divorce for the past eight years. On Friday, a source close to Pitt told People that it's 'pretty shocking' that the pair still 'can't find a resolution and finalize the divorce.' 'A major reason for their unhappiness before Angelina filed for divorce was their frequent clashes over parenting their kids,' the insider claimed. The source pointed out that the stars 'always had different approaches to life just in general' as she grew up in Hollywood as the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand and he had a normal childhood in Springfield, Missouri.'This applied to the kids too,' the source explained. 'Brad wanted a structured life for them with a set education curriculum. Angie wanted them all to find themselves and to figure out what excited them and sparked passion.' Ultimately, Jolie's parenting approach 'won' and 'the kids are free-spirited, super smart and artsy.' 'Brad is very proud though,' the source made clear.
