Days after her ex-husband Brad Pitt filed a lawsuit against her for selling her share of a jointly owned estate and winery to a Russian businessman, Angelina Jolie was in need of a reset. The 46-year-old A-list actress took to Instagram on Thursday morning to share a sweet snap of herself smiling alongside 15-year-old daughter Shiloh in Cambodia.Jolie grinned from ear-to-ear as she gazed down and placed her hand over her heart and explained in the caption that being around the people in the Southeast Asian nation always picks up her spirits. She wrote to her 12.3million followers: 'A few days in Cambodia among the warm local people, and I feel my soul is recovering. This has always been a special country for me and our family.'Jolie's family has strong ties to the country as she adopted eldest child Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt, 20, from the country and even founded a non-profit charity organization dedicated to environmental security, improving health, and creating peace and stability in all communities in his name called the Maddox Jolie-Pitt (MJP) Foundation. She also shared an image of herself during a meeting with men in both business and military attire and also addressed the image in the caption as she wrote: 'Happy to be reunited with friends and colleagues at MJP Foundation in Samlot district. 'The entirely local team runs programs for health and education and conservation. I spent some time with forest rangers discussing land encroachment, poaching and mapping patrol routes.'Angelina first witnessed the effects of the humanitarian crisis in war-torn Cambodia while filming 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She later bought a home in the country in 2003 in order to connect son Maddox with his heritage in an area which had become infiltrated with poachers and threatened endangered species so she purchased it and turned it into a wildlife reserve paving the way for the MJP foundation. In recognition of her conservation efforts King Norodom Sihamoni awarded her Cambodian citizenship on July 31, 2005.Her Instagram post comes days after ex-husband Pitt, 58, filed a lawsuit against Jolie after she offloaded her share of the French estate Château Miraval the Correns, France winery to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. Shefler is the owner of S.P.I. Group which produces and sells more than 300 brands of alcohol including Stolichnaya vodka and he has a net worth of around $2.5 billion, according to Forbes. Brad said in court documents he and Jolie initially purchased the winery in 2008 for $28.4 million, at which time she put down about 40 percent of the funding (about $11.36 million).Brad now wants a judge to order Angelina to undo the deal after Tenute del Mondo, controlled by Yuri, with court documents claiming she completed the sale of her 50 percent stake 'without his knowledge'. The Fight Club actor told the court he and Jolie had agreed they would not sell off their interest in the winery without the consent of the other party. He said he put far more work and funding into the winery to make it profitable, and by 2013 she hadn't matched his efforts on either front.
In court documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, and obtained by the New York Post's Page Six column, reads: 'Jolie consummated the purported sale without Pitt's knowledge, denying Pitt the consent right she owed him and the right of first refusal her business entity owed his.'She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Pitt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt's investment in Miraval.'Jolie informed the court that she intended to sell her share of the winery in July of 2021, Brad said in legal documents, adding in September of 2021 he consented to letting the Lara Croft actress seek out a buyer who he would have approval rights on. At the time, her firm and her former husband's own Bongo LLC were equal shareholders in a Luxembourg company that had ownership interests in the Chateau Miraval estate in France, and a winery business branded as SNC Miraval Provence. The actor told the court he learned in October of 2021 Jolie had sold her share to Shefler's organization, and did not seek his approval or the deal or disclose the terms to him, against what they had previously agreed to.He also said Shefler's involvement has been detrimental to his ability to efficiently run the winery. In the suit, his team argues: 'The purported sale deprives Pitt of his right to enjoy his private home and to oversee the business he developed from scratch.' A source close to Brad told TMZ his ex-wife disregarded 'her legal and ethical obligations' in selling her share to Shefler, and 'in doing so, she has violated the rights of the only person who poured money and sweat equity into the success of the business by purporting to sell both the business and family home to a third-party competitor.'Angelina 'is seeking a return on an investment she did not make and profits she did not earn,' the insider said. The former Hollywood couple, who wed in 2014 and split in 2016, have been entangled in the legal system amid battles on multiple issues over the past five years-plus.Last May, Brad was awarded joint custody of their minor children, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and Vivienne and Knox, 13. They are also parents to Maddox, 20.Brad and Angelina met and by their own admission 'fell in love' while filming Mr and Mrs Smith in the summer of 2004 while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston. After a controversial start, they quickly became Hollywood's golden power couple and quickly grew their family. They eventually married in 2014 at their Chateau Miraval in France in front of all six of their children. But by August 2016, their high-profile romance had collapse and Angelina filed for divorce and requested primary custody of their children, marking the beginning of the long and ugly legal war.In 2019, Pitt revealed that he turned to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) after his split from Angelina because his drinking had got out of control.

Actress Angelina Jolie visited Capitol Hill Wednesday to help a bipartisan group of senators roll out a new version of the Violence Against Women Act. Jolie, who brought daughter Zahara along with her to Washington, got emotional when addressing a packed press conference - and shamed Congress' 'silence' on the matter as they've not reauthorized the bill in nearly a decade. 'Most of all, I want to acknowledge - most of all, I want to acknowledge the children who are terrified and suffering at this moment,' she said, her voice cracking. 'And the many people for whom this legislation comes too late.''The women who have suffered through this system with little or no support, they still carry the pain and trauma of their abuse,' the A-list actress continued. 'The young adults who have survived abuse and emerged stronger not because of the child protective system, but despite it.' And the women and children who have died, who could have been saved,' she said. Four senators opened the program - Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin and Dianne Feinstein and Republican Sens. Joni Ernst and Lisa Murkowski - and said they believed the bill they were introducing could get enough bipartisan support to override a filibuster threat. Feinstein, a Democrat from California, marveled at the size of the audience when she stepped up to the podium. 'I walked in, and I thought, oh my goodness, look at the numbers. They must really like the bill,' she joked. 'And then I figured you know, could it be one California woman who has come here from a city known as Los Angeles?' 'And I think it may be part of that. A good part of it,' she said, laughing. 'Never assume that it is us.' Jolie, who's no stranger to Washington or political causes - and even met with Environmental Protection Agency head Michael Regan before her appointment on Capitol Hill - fussed at lawmakers for not reauthorizing the bill since 2013. 'The reason that many people struggle to leave abusive situations is that they've been made to feel worthless,' she said. 'When there is silence from a Congress too busy to renew the Violence Against Women Act for a decade, it reinforces that sense of worthlessness.' 'You think I guess my abusers right. I guess I'm not worth very much,' the actress continued. 'That's why passing this law is one of the most important votes US senators will cast this year,' she told the lawmakers. Ernst, an Iowa Republican, talked about how the bill was personal to her, a survivor of abuse. 'I know firsthand what happens when someone you trust abuses you,' she told the crowd. Jolie said the 'ugly truth' was that 'violence in homes is normalized in our country.' 'The idea of sovereignty of a family home is being used to abuse the members within it,' the actress said. Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, said the group was 'perilously close to 60 votes,' which would enable the bill to pass the Senate. 'I don't know if there's any formal White House endorsement,' he also said. President Joe Biden has often spoken about his role as its chief sponsor when getting the first VAWA across the line in 1994 while serving in the U.S. Senate. He condemned the Republicans for dragging their feet in 2012 and 2013 when the bill was being reauthorized last and he was serving as vice president. The new version came together after the so-called 'boyfriend loophole' got scrapped. The boyfriend loophole has to do with whether unmarried partners could have guns if one of them was found guilty of domestic abuse. The National Rifle Association - and with it likely Republican votes - were against its inclusion. At the press conference, Feinstein bemoaned its exclusion. 'Now, this isn't a perfect bill and I regret that the boyfriend loophole is not addressed. And many of us have tried very hard to get there. But it's a good bill,' the California Democrat said. 'And we finally need to get a Violence AGainst Women Act reauthorization to the president's desk.' 'It's not perfect but it's a big advance,' she added.

Angelina Jolie used her platform to raise the voice of a struggling Afghan woman. The movie star, 46, took to Instagram on Saturday to share an excerpt from a letter recently sent to her.Jolie called on her 12.2 million followers to 'track what's happening in Afghanistan' and 'ensure they're not forgotten.' 'A young woman in #Afghanistan sent me this letter. I’m protecting her identity, but she hasn’t been able to go back to school since the Taliban seized power,' the mom-of-six wrote. The actress shared more information, adding, 'Now, with women being arrested simply for taking part in peaceful protests, she writes “I might never be able to go outside again or even be able to speak as I am a girl.”'An excerpt from the letter was shared, which stated: '“I feel like women don’t have any right to speak or put their word forward. The rights of the woman are taken away from them and they are not allowed to do anything in the country. Few weeks back when the Taliban arrested 2 of the women who raised their voices in order to ask for the rights of woman and freedom, I just thought, that this is the end and I might never be able to go outside again or even be able to speak as I am a Girl.”'The carousel post began with white letters reading 'A recent letter from an Afghan girl' typed over a blurred handwritten letter. The next slides had black backgrounds with poignant messaging on top. The first one introduced, 'Women's rights activists missing in Afghanistan.' The post went on to list the names of the women who have gone missing, and the dates they were taken. The activists were named as Alia Azizi, Parwana Ibrahimkhel, Mursal Ayar, Zahra Mohammadi, and Tamana Zaryab Paryani and her three sisters.A final slide reiterated what Angelina had written in her caption: 'Please track what is happening in Afghanistan, where young women are being taken from their homes at night at gunpoint and disappeared, and new restrictions are being imposed on the freedom of women and girls day by day. 'Please help ensure they’re not forgotten.'This isn't the first time the philanthropist has turned to Instagram to lift up Afghan women in need. After joining the photo-sharing community in August, she shared a different letter from a young woman concerned about the future of Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover.'Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely,' Angelina said. 'So I've come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights.' The woman, unidentified, expressed that she was living in fear and said 'all our dreams are gone.' Angelina said to her followers, 'It is sickening to watch Afghans being displaced yet again out of the fear and uncertainty that has gripped their country. The humanitarian, who's a former U.N. goodwill ambassador spoke out about the war, saying, 'To spend so much time and money, to have blood shed and lives lost only to come to this, is a failure almost impossible to understand.'Watching for decades how Afghan refugees - some of the most capable people in the world - are treated like a burden is also sickening. Knowing that if they had the tools and respect, how much they would do for themselves. And meeting so many women and girls who not only wanted an education, but fought for it,' she stressed. Jolie said she would 'continue to look for ways to help.'

Angelina Jolie visits Capitol Hill

Actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie visited Capitol Hill on Tuesday, December 14 to speak to lawmakers. Representative Cori Bush, a Democrat from Missouri, said she spoke to Jolie about the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)."She's so informed," Bush told CBS News' Nikole Killion.Bush tweeted that she is "forever grateful l to get to work in partnership with such strong women across the country in our movement to end domestic violence." She added that as a survivor herself, "this fight is personal" and she thanked Jolie for "leadership to put an end to violence against women." Jolie previously visited the Capitol in September to support the re-authorization of the act, as well as campaign for children's health issues. At the time, Jolie told reporters that she was meeting with Justice Department officials and GOP Senator Joni Ernst. The VAWA was a Clinton-era piece of legislation that was the first federal legislation to acknowledge domestic violence and sexual assault as crimes and provide federal resources to combat them. It was championed by then-Senator Joe Biden, who has called the legislation as "one of my proudest legislative achievements." But the law needed to be renewed every five years, and it hasn't been reauthorized since 2013. It expired at the end of 2018, and although 33 Republicans joined with the Democratic-controlled House to pass it in 2019, the law did not go anywhere in the GOP-controlled Senate. Reauthorizing the VAWA was one of Mr. Biden's key campaign promises. Earlier this year, the House reauthorized the VAWA by a vote of 244 to 172, with 29 Republicans joining all Democrats in voting for it."I think it's very important that that's the case and for these issues because it's a family - it's a health crisis, what is happening," Jolie told reporters in September. "And it's going to be solved if you look at it as healthy families and invest in when there is the harm within the families, especially for the children and getting the care early, and prevention, and a lot of the - as they say 'the upstream,' a lot of focus on the prevention and the health and really seeing it that way, so it's a less adversarial situation and more about keeping families together and focusing on protection of women and children, but protection of the whole family." "UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie is in D.C...to continue to advocate for the rights of women and children and health in families," a spokesperson for Jolie told CBS News at the September meeting. "In her meetings, she will talk about the importance of VAWA reauthorization, FBI reforms, judicial training, and health equity including non-biased forensic evidence collection." Senator Mitt Romney tweeted pictures of his meeting with Jolie. He said they discussed support for children and families.
