Angelina Jolie's Broadway-bound new musical The Outsiders has an opening date. On Monday it was revealed the show will kick off in the spring of 2024. Deadline reported that the show will start previews on March 16, 2024, with opening night scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2024. Casting is set to be announced at a later date and tickets will go on sale to the general public on November 1. It is a show based on S.E. Hinton's novel and Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 coming-of-age crime drama. That film starred a who's who of young Hollywood at the time: Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Emilio Estevez, C Thomas Howell and Ralph Macchio.This comes after news her daughter Vivienne will be working with her as her assistant.The Outsiders had its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse earlier this year. The Broadway cast and dates have not been revealed yet. 'I hope to be able to contribute while continuing to learn from this amazing team, who I have been working with since my daughter brought me to see the show at La Jolla Playhouse,' Jolie said in a statement. 'I can't begin to express how excited I am for this musical to make its Broadway debut and look forward to sharing this new adaptation of The Outsiders with the world.' The synopsis for The Outsiders film reads: 'A teen gang in rural Oklahoma, the Greasers are perpetually at odds with the Socials, a rival group. 'When Greasers Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio) get into a brawl that ends in the death of a Social member, the boys are forced to go into hiding. 'Soon Ponyboy and Johnny, along with the intense Dallas (Matt Dillon) and their other Greaser buddies, must contend with the consequences of their violent lives. While some Greasers try to achieve redemption, others meet tragic ends.' Other celebs who have signed up to produce Broadway shows include Mariah Carey on the current hit Some Like It Hot. Dwyane Wade, actor Gabrielle Union and RuPaul joined the producing team of the closed show Ain´t No Mo. Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas joined the producing team of last season's Chicken & Biscuits.Jennifer Hudson, Don Cheadle, Mindy Kaling and RuPaul were also among the producers of 2022's Tony-winner A Strange Loop/. The current Here Lies Love boasts H.E.R., Jo Koy and Apl.de.Ap as producers. The Outsiders musical features a story by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine, music and lyrics by Jonathan Clay, Zach Chance and Levine. The author, born Susan Eloise Hinton, wrote the bulk of the popular novel when she was only a teenager in high school in Oklahoma, so it seems serendipitous that Vivienne is interested in helping give it new life. Angelina and Vivienne have met with Susan as they forge ahead on their endeavour. Director Danya Taymor, 34, is the niece of Tony winner and Oscar nominee Julie Taymor, known for bringing The Lion King musical to the stage. The theater is known for launching successful shows such as Tony award winning Come From Away. In a statement to People, the proud mom wrote, 'Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives.''She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.' Frances Ford Coppola turned the book into a film. The 1983 movie helped launch the careers of Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, and Diane Lane. The musical made its world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego in February.

Written by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine, the Broadway musical of The Outsiders will be directed by Danya Taymor; music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance); music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Justin Levine; and choreography by Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman.
'I studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute where I realized my first love, as a performer, was the theatre,' the Academy Award winner said. 'I had not found a way back until now. Along with Vivienne and Pax, Jolie also shares four other children with ex-husband Brad Pitt that includes: Knox, 15, Shiloh, 17, Zahara, 18, and Maddox, 22. Over the years, Maddox and Pax have also dipped their feet in the entertainment industry as they previously worked in the assistant director department for their mom's upcoming drama war film Without Blood. Pax previously collaborated with his mom on First They Killed My Father (2017), shooting behind-the-scenes stills for the drama film, which is about the same job he had for Without Blood. 'We work well together. When a film crew is at its best, it feels like a big family, so it felt natural,' Jolie said of Pax and Maddox's work in the assistant director department, which serves as the liaison between her job as the director and other departments of the production.Pax, the second eldest son of Jolie and ex-husband Brad Pitt, is reportedly serious about his love for art, and that he's said to be preparing for a show at a gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel. Adopted from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in March 2007, the artistic young man graduated from college in 2021. So far, it's not exactly known what type of art he's focused on, but there have been some people who have describes his style as 'abstract.'
