The Tomb Raider star also mentioned the film's director, Pablo Larraín, whom she said she 'long admired.'The mother of six added, 'To be allowed the chance to tell more of Maria's story with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream.' Jolie has played famous people before: In 1998 she starred as tragic supermodel Gia Carangi in Gia and in 2007 she starred as Mariana pearl in the film A Mighty Heart. The director, who is best known for the bio pictures Jackie (about Jackie Kennedy, played by Natalie Portman) and Spencer (about Princess Diana, played by Kristen Stewart), also made a comment.Portman and Stewart both landed Oscar nominations for their work in those films, so perhaps the same could happen for Jolie as Callas. 'Having the chance to combine my two most deep and personal passions, cinema and opera, has been a long-awaited dream,' Larraín said.'To do this with Angelina, a supremely brave and curious artist, is a fascinating opportunity. Starring in a movie about Callas was a passion project for Faye Dunaway who even wanted to use her own money for the film, but it never came off the ground. In 2014, Meryl Streep was reportedly set to play Callas in Master Class with Mike Nichols as her director but the project did not come to be. Salma Hayek has worked with some legendary directors, from Julie Taymor and Robert Rodriguez to Chloé Zhao and Ridley Scott. But her favorite director to work with is one who co-starred with the Emmy Award winning actress. In a recent interview with Deadline, the 55-year-old Frida star said Angelina Jolie was her favorite director to work with after they collaborated on Without Blood. 'Angelina is the best director I’ve ever worked with. I absolutely loved working with her; enjoyed every second of it,' she said. 'It’s a tough piece but it was so delicious to come to work every single day. She is a genius and I think this might be her best movie yet. She did an amazing job, really.'She also said she was 'completely blown away by her mind, her dedication, her technical knowledge, and her control of every aspect, as well as her vision which is so clear. 'She is so good with the actors, so passionate, and so focused. But most of all, I was blown away by her kindness to every single person on the set. I talked about this with my co-star Demián Bichir and we were saying, "Wow, she’s really something."'Salma and Angelina previously worked alongside each other as actors on the Marvel movie Eternals. This new endeavor is decidedly more grounded, following a young Italian girl named Nina after she witnesses an act of violence. Without Blood isn't the only project Hayek talked about in her Deadline interview. She also discussed the new show she produced titled Santa Evita, centered on famous Argentinian First Lady Eva Perón. The show stars Natalia Oreiro of Super Crazy fame as Perón, who served as first lady of Argentina before dying of cervical cancer in 1952 at just 33 years old. Despite the character it centers on, Santa Evita takes place after her death, following the strange circumstances regarding her remains. 'Eva Perón is a super charismatic character and there have been so many [projects] made about her. But Santa Evita is based on a part of Evita’s story that is a mystery which is, following her death, she was embalmed by her husband, and then [her body] disappeared for nearly 20 years,' Hayek explained. She later said she felt the series, now streaming in its entirety on Hulu, focuses on 'something that I find very relevant today: the obsession that men can have over women’s bodies. The obsession that men can have to take women who seem unattainable and control them. The story is told in an ingenious and original way.'

Angelina Jolie was ready for action as she threw herself into her directing role on the set of upcoming film Without Blood as the cast and crew filmed at night on the streets of Rome, Italy. The screen star, 47, who is taking a step back from acting and focusing on filmmaking, appeared in her element as she got into work mode, clad with headphones and a radio. She was joined by fellow actress Salma Hayek, 55, who was seen in full costume as she filmed scenes for the movie.Angelina wore a white smock dress in the Italian capital along with a pair of sandals and, at times, a mask in a bid to keep herself and others safe from coronavirus. She was seen chatting to members of the crew and was surrounded by filming equipment on set. Salma wore a black dress and had her hair styled in waves, with her tresses pinned down by silver clips. The pair were in good spirits as they chatted during a break from filming. Without Blood is based on the international-bestselling novel of the same name by Italian writer Alessandro Baricco - with Angelina set to write, direct and produce it. While the detailed plot of the film has not been revealed, the book focuses on the brutality of war, and a young girl's search for healing after an act of violence occurs. Mexican actor Demián Bichir is also set to star in the film alongside Salma. Speaking after the film was announced, Angelina said: 'I'm honoured to be here in Italy to bring this very special material to film, and to have been entrusted by Alessandro Baricco with the adaptation of his book — with its unique poetry and emotion and way of looking at war, and the questions it poses about what we search for after trauma or loss or injustice.' Jennifer Mullin, Global CEO at Freemantle, added: 'We are excited to work with [Angelina] and the incredible international team she has assembled. 'This project underlines Fremantle's ongoing commitment to producing high-quality feature films and original dramas working with the very best talent from across the globe.' In February 2017, Angelina was said to be developing Without Blood with a view to direct.
