Angelina Jolie confirmed the morbid career that she had studied in the past before her success as a movie star. The Maleficent actress, 49 - who recently debuted a new bird tattoo on her arm at the 2024 Gotham Awards on Monday - opened up about the topic on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. In a special preview ahead of Thursday's episode, the SNL alum told the star, 'You're an incredible actor, but I saw some things online.'I was wondering if I could ask you if these rumors are true of other careers that you might have had. I'd be interested to see if any of these are real.' After Angelina said she was also 'interested' to hear the rumors, Jimmy asked, 'First of all, is it true that prior to acting you were studying to become a funeral director?' The Oscar winner simply replied with, 'Yes,' before humorously adding, 'Doesn't it make sense though?'In regards to why she was initially drawn to the career, Jolie recalled, 'My grandfather died, and I remember thinking this is not how they should be. 'This should be a celebration of life. And since I'm not afraid of death and I was comfortable with it, I thought, "This would be a great career path for me... I could, like, make this better. I could do a thing here.' Fallon agreed with the actress by saying, 'We need more people like that,' and Jolie added, 'It's my fall-back career now.' Jolie's appearance on The Tonight Show on Thursday will be her first late night show in 10 years. The mother-of-six previously discussed wanting to be a funeral director during an appearance on 60 Minutes back in 2011. At the time, the star expressed, 'It sounds like this very strange, eccentric, dark thing to do but in fact I lost my grandfather and was very upset with his funeral.' 'How somebody passes and how family deals with this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way. If this whole acting thing didn't work out that was going to be my path.' Jolie has been keeping busy while promoting her upcoming Netflix biopic, Maria, which is slated to become available on the streaming site on December 11. The film was directed by Pablo Larrain - who is behind other projects such as Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021). Along with Jolie, other stars that have been cast in the film include Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer and Kodi Smit-McPhee. In August, the biopic first premiered during the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion.
The premise of the film is: 'Maria Callas, the world's greatest opera singer, lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, as she confronts her identity and life,' per an IMDB synopsis. In October, the official trailer for Maria was released - and quickly ignited Oscars buzz among fans. During a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Angelina talked about her children Maddox and Pax helping out on the film, Maria, as production assistants. The star notably shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, as well as twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, with Brad Pitt. The pair married in 2014, but filed for divorce in 2016 before being declared legally single in 2019. However, Angelina and Brad are set to head to trial next year amidst a legal battle over their French vineyard. 'They were able to consider the relationships in the film and the violence - things that sometimes you don't have the opportunity to discuss with your sons, so I felt fortunate.' And while previously speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in August, she further reflected on her kids having the chance to gain experience on set. 'Mad and Pax were on this one. Doing AD [assistant directing] work. They've done that quite a few times, and I think that's good for them,' she stated. 'Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and [director] Pablo was wonderful and recognized that he was good at it.' Angelina also revealed the reason why she decided to step back in front of the camera - and explained that she didn't need to be home as much for her kids. 'They're a bit older, getting more independent. I'm less needed and so able to go away for different periods of time.' She added, 'And they're old enough to join me at work. It's a new season in our lives. I'm very excited for them to be coming into their own more and more every day.' While also talking to The Times, she revealed that she is getting 'better work' in Hollywood as she has 'gotten older.' 'I don't think about it in terms of roles offered but in terms of life experience you contribute. It's easier for actors than singers or dancers because your body doesn't change.'
Jolie then expressed that she disagreed with Maria Callas' views on aging but praised the late opera singer's 'commitment' to her passion. 'I'm a hard worker. And a deeply feeling person. Maria is vulnerable because she feels and isn't sometimes able to protect herself from the loneliness or emotional pain. Because it's part of her life and work to be extremely human and live that way.' The actress added, 'You live through your communication with the audience. For Maria and for me that has always been extremely important.' As Jolie prepares for the official release of the film on Netflix, she is also amidst an ongoing divorce battle with ex Brad Pitt. The actor was recently ordered to hand over documents that could prove he had been abusive to Jolie and their children. It came shortly before a source told Page Six that Pitt 'is missing his kids and wishes he had a closer relationship with them, particularly with celebrating the holidays and his birthday this month.' Pitt - who is currently in a relationship with Ines de Ramon - will celebrate his 61st birthday on December 18. And on Wednesday, a separate insider informed DailyMail.com that Brad is 'begging his twins' to be with him to celebrate. The source added he 'loves his kids and it would mean the world to him to have them spend his special day with him.' 'But it is not looking so great so far. Some of the kids still talk to him, some do not. It is very tricky.'

Angelina Jolie is very careful with what she shows her six children. When at the Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards on Monday she told Extra's Mona Kosar Abdi that her children saw her as a vulnerable woman when she filmed Maria. But it turns out that is a very rare thing, added the 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress. 'I was so happy to be with them [on Maria], and definitely they saw me terrified, which is also a thing,' she said. 'You don't usually share so much vulnerability in front of your children, even really crying in front of them or being scared in front of them, so they were very protective.' The Gia actress shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox with ex Brad Pitt, whom she has battling through a nasty divorce for eight years. Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on September 20, 2016. In the past she has said when she felt pain over her Pitt split she cried only when she was alone in the shower. Angelina added in her Extra interview that playing Maria Callas allowed her to face her fears. 'I was very scared to sing and I was nervous to do things, but I also have always found it, you know, as an artist, you love things that scare you because it's a gift.' She also said, 'Ever since I was young, I think it's a real gift to be an artist. 'We're very lucky that we get to explore, within a safe place with other artists, our emotional life and our pain and what a lot of people feel alone, and they don't have the chance to kind of express it, so I've always felt very lucky.' Jolie also shared what she is most thankful for after Thanksgiving, saying, 'Health of my family.' And her kids are proud of the hard work she put into Maria. She commented, 'They did say they were proud of how hard I worked. You know, when they say, they don't talk about winning an award, they don't talk about anything, I'll hear them say, "She works so hard." 'So I think that that makes me very happy that they see that I work hard and it's just nice,' added the By The Sea director. Angelina previously revealed that she spent 'months' preparing to sing in Maria. The salt actress said at the Telluride Film Festival: 'I had seven months of opera classes, great teachers and Italian classes, and a supportive team that were going to help me.' Despite this, Angelina still felt anxious about singing when the time came to do it. She said: 'I was so nervous that morning I was out of my mind.' Angelina also revealed that she relished the experience of working with director Pablo Larrain. She said: 'I knew that as long as I gave my best, Pablo would be okay with it and somehow make it work. I knew I needed to do my best to try to help solve the puzzle, but I knew that he was a kind person and he was supportive and that helped.'

Angelina Jolie showed off a new, small bird tattoo located on her arm. The new ink was seen on Monday evening at The Gotham 34th Annual Film Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The black bird was seen flying down with its wings back. She has a similar drawing on her chest, only in that one the bird is flying up. This new mark is located above the coordinates from where her six children were born - she shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox with ex Brad Pitt, whom she has battling through a nasty divorce for eight years. The fresh tat showed nicely on her arm as she wore a sleeveless black long dress with platform heels while talking to the press on the red carpet. In June the Maria actress showed off the bird mark in the middle of her chest as she made a glamorous appearance at the 77th Annual Tony Awards. Jolie has also said in the past that some of her children have the bird tattoo in different locations. As in, they don't all have the bird tattoos on their chest. 'There is also a Bird that I share with some of my children that is personal to us,' Angelina said to CR Fashion Book. The Maleficent actress, 49, first flaunted the tiny chest ink in June as she graced the red carpet alongside her teenage daughter Vivienne, 15. The pair's Broadway production, The Outsiders, garnered four major wins during the special ceremony, including Best Musical. Her latest tattoo seemingly depicted a sparrow-like bird with its wings slightly out to appear as if it was flying. Sparrows can carry a special meaning and are known to symbolize freedom, love and also loyalty. Jolie - who has been embroiled in a tumultuous divorce battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt - opted to not add any colorful details to the tattoo and instead chose a simple, black ink. A few months earlier in April during opening night of The Outsiders in the Big Apple, the actress revealed new ink located on her left forearm.
The words 'Stay Gold' could be in cursive in reference to the Broadway musical. The phrase is said by the character, Johnny, while talking to Ponyboy as a reminder to stay true to oneself. And last year in August, she initially debuted mystery ink on each of her middle fingers - which had been done by tattoo artist, MR.K. At the time, he uploaded an image of her hands but concealed the designs by blurring the tattoos. 'Still can't believe that I actually grabbed her hand and tattooed her. Guess what she got on her palm?' Social media users attempted to figure out what the ink could possibly be, with one penning, 'F***. Brad' in reference to her messy divorce battle with Pitt. However, the tattoo artist soon addressed fans by revealing in the comment section that, 'It has NOTHING related with Brad Pitt.' He also later apologized to the star for any stress caused by fan speculation. 'First of all, I feel sorry with all the bad speculations and sincerely apologize to @angelinajolie for the stress that might caused her,' Mr. K penned while finally unveiling the tattoos. He continued, 'This tattoo represents two daggers in geometric & abstract way / nothing related to religion or cross #angelinajolie #mrktattoo.' Some of Jolie's various other tattoos include a Bengal Tiger, a cross, Khmer Script and also Geographical Coordinates of her children. During a past interview with Marie Claire UK back in 2020, Angelina opened up about her array of tattoos. 'I love them. They're body art,' she gushed to the outlet at the time. 'I don't think it's abnormal that someone who spends their life in other skins wants to claim their own by marking things on it that matter to them.' This comes after Jolie said she very careful with what she shows her six children. When at the Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards on Monday she told Extra's Mona Kosar Abdi that her children saw her as a vulnerable woman when she filmed Maria.

Brad Pitt is 'missing his kids' with Angelina Jolie and feels Christmas 'won't be the same' without them

Brad Pitt is 'missing his kids' over the holidays and feels Christmas 'won't be the same' if he cannot have any time with them, amid his legal battle with their mother Angelina Jolie. The former couple share three biological children - Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 - as well as their adopted children Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 19. 'Brangelina' went public as a couple in 2006 and married in 2014 before splitting in 2016, triggering a bitter feud in the courts over property and child custody. Pitt is said to be estranged from his children, a number of whom have legally dropped his surname, most recently Shiloh after she turned 18 this May. Pax was then involved in a motorcycle accident in July and Pitt was reportedly unable to even visit him in the hospital. Now, with Pitt's 61st birthday approaching on December 18 and Christmas arriving shortly thereafter, he is said to be feeling the sting of the separation especially acutely. 'Brad is missing his kids and wishes he had a closer relationship with them, particularly with celebrating the holidays and his birthday this month,' a source informed Page Six. He is currently two years into a romance with jewelry executive Ines De Ramon, 31, who was previously married to The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley. Pitt is said to be 'thankful he has an amazing partner,' whom the source described as 'supportive,' adding that 'Brad is looking forward to ringing in the new year with her.' In May of this year, when Shiloh filed to give up the last name Pitt, an insider had shared: 'Brad feels like Angelina has turned his kids against him.' Last month, Jolie walked the Governors Awards red carpet with Knox on her arm - in a move that a source said Pitt felt was calculated to 'push his buttons' just days after a judge ruled that their legal dispute over their French winery will go to trial. Pitt, 60, and Jolie, 49, infamously fell in love during the making of their 2005 movie Mr. And Mrs. Smith while he was still married to his first wife Jennifer Aniston.
Jolie staunchly insisted that they never engaged in an illicit affair, but only struck up their relationship once Pitt separated from Aniston. Fans around the world began siding with 'Team Jolie' or 'Team Aniston,' as a furor raged over the love triangle with Pitt at its center. Jolie filed for divorce against Pitt in September 2016, after a mysterious dispute on a private plane in the presence of their son Maddox, now 23. Early in the proceedings, the FBI looked into allegations that Brad became 'physical' with Maddox on the jet, but the investigation was closed with no charges filed. Jolie allegedly filed a Freedom Of Information Act request as 'Jane Doe' in 2021 related to the FBI documents about the fateful 2016 plane ride. She is said to have dropped her action against the FBI on September 25 this year, according to legal papers obtained by In Touch magazine. However, in court documents she filed this April in legal dispute over property, Jolie accused Pitt of having been abusive to her 'well before' the plane ride. Amid the collapse of their marriage, Pitt and Jolie plunged into a rancorous custody battle over their six children, four of whom are now adults. Pax suffered a terrifying accident in July of this year when he crashed his dirt bike into a car in Los Angeles while not wearing a helmet. Sources informed DailyMail.com that Jolie was 'by his side in hospital,' while 'Brad is distraught and worried over Pax's accident, but he is unable to reach him.' The accident came four years after Pax unleashed an explosive social media rant calling his father a 'world class a**hole' and a 'terrible and despicable person' who had caused his four younger children to 'tremble in fear.' Jolie and Pitt are also still engaged in a legal conflict over the Chateau Miraval, the winery they shared as a couple in the South Of France. The feud over the property stems from the fact Angelina sold her half to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler for $62 million in 2021, amid her divorce proceedings. Pitt sued her over the sale, insisting that she was contractually obligated to obtain his consent before offloading her portion of the Chateau Miraval. Jolie has brought up her abuse allegations and the custody battle over the course of her years-long legal feud with Brad over the Chateau Miraval. She has asked Pitt to 'end the fighting' and drop the winery lawsuit against her so that their family can have a chance to 'heal.' However sources told DailyMail.com that Pitt has 'no intention' of dropping the , claiming that Angelina only asked him to do so after she discovered that her case is weaker than she initially anticipated. 'Brad is not going to drop this lawsuit – why would he? This was a very standard business dispute but unfortunately, Angelina has consistently introduced personal elements that are meant for a divorce court,' an insider said. She is currently at the center of a swirl of dating rumors with the British rapper Akala, 41, whom she has been seen with publicly on multiple occasions.
