Angelina Jolie is the first to admit Mother's Day makes her emotional."It does mean a lot to moms, so try not to forget it," she tells Extra while promoting her upcoming film Those Who Wish Me Dead.Jolie, 45, is mom to six children — Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 12 — and she says they consistently hit it out of the park on the annual holiday."My kids have always been amazing at Mother's Day. The fun for me is that I don't plan anything, I don't do anything, and they all tend to work together to surprise me with something," she explains. "It is just the knowing that they are doing something together and thinking of something together, and that they want to and that they think it is important always makes me cry." "They always joke about how quickly it makes me cry," says Jolie. "They will laugh at how many times I cry in the day or how quickly I cry. … 'Oh, there she goes!' " In the March issue of British Vogue, Jolie said it's a "big deal" in her mind if her kids "accept me." She explained, "I mean, that's the thing for a lot of mothers, and for a lot of parents regardless. But I think even more so if you have adopted children. They have to choose you too. It's not the parents' family and they're in it. It's our family." Jolie also offered advice to other parents hoping to raise socially conscious humans."I know this may sound strange, but don't make it a duty for them to do good or have to give back," she said. "If we can help children feel that it's not about duty or service or charity, but the joy of an interconnected life with people you respect, then it feels very different."

Tunisia’s Angelina Jolie-lookalike Covid-19 vaccine prank show angers WHO

World Health Organisation says programme will spread vaccine scepticism. It is a Ramadan tradition: each night after iftar, millions of Tunisians tune in to their favourite Ramadan shows – limited-run series filled with intrigue, romance, or comedy. But this week, one popular production, a candid camera prank show called Angelina 19, had the World Health Organisation demanding it be removed from the airwaves. Each night the show invites a local sports star, musician or politician to a panel discussion about Covid-19, before a surprise guest arrives: an Angelina Jolie lookalike in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. The fake Jolie tells the audience she is donating thousands of doses of a vaccine "approved by the WHO" to Tunisia, and persuades them to get vaccinated on camera.A "renowned Tunisian cardiologist" vouches for the vaccine, and the group retires to a room offstage to line up for the jab.But events take a turn when two of the actors in the show fall to the floor, convulsing and screaming in pain, shortly after receiving the fake vaccine. Chaos ensues and one of them is "pronounced dead".The candid camera captures the shock and horror of the celebrities as they try to navigate the situation. While the show’s producers claim this is all for comic effect, the WHO is not laughing. In addition to the misappropriation of the WHO logo and name, the organisation is worried about the show’s effect on vaccine hesitancy. In a letter to the Minister of Health, the WHO’s representative in Tunisia, Yves Souteyrand, called for the show to be removed from the airwaves.“It is known that part of the population is reluctant to be vaccinated and that major efforts must be made to build trust in the vaccine,” the letter, obtained by The National, reads.“The media have a role to play in this area. But, we fear that this kind of programme, broadcast on a popular channel with a broad audience, will promote scepticism, hesitation to get vaccinated and conspiracies, by associating the vaccine with death or serious side effects.” Uptake of the vaccine slowed in recent weeks after an initial surge when the first doses arrived in the country. A little more than 271,000 Tunisians have received at least one dose of the vaccine, although millions of doses are available. Of the more than 11 million people living in Tunisia, just 1.3 million are registered in the online system for obtaining a vaccine. Many Tunisians already question whether the vaccine is effective, safe or necessary.Aymen Tarhouni, 28, said he was not planning on getting vaccinated.“My mother got it a few months ago,” he said while out enjoying a warm day in Tunis’s bustling downtown. “Thankfully she made it, so for me I think I’ll leave it in God’s hands.” He said that he does not like to check the daily number of new infections, “because it adds anxiety to my life that I don’t need”. But the number of new infections continues to climb steadily, with nearly 2,000 new cases reported each day. Hospital ICU units are nearing capacity and deaths have climbed past 10,000. Last week a government scientific adviser warned that the healthcare system could collapse if the caseload did not come down. Some of Tunisia’s most vulnerable, the elderly, are still sceptical whether the vaccine is safe. Abdelaziz, 71, said he had registered with the online system, but was worried about the possible ill effects of the jab. “There's not enough information about some vaccine types,” he said, “especially the one that causes blood clots.” For Nadia, 36, Angelina 19 is just another hurdle in her quest to persuade her ageing mother to get vaccinated. “We young people know the show’s a candid camera, a prank,” she said. “But old people don’t necessarily get that, and it scares them. My mother still won’t get her vaccine.”

Angelina Jolie hints Brad Pitt divorce left her 'broken' but new movie Those Who Wish Me Dead 'healed her' as it reminded the star to 'stand back up'

Angelina Jolie shed some light on how she has been feeling since her divorce from Brad Pitt, whom she is still in a custody battle with. This week the actress, 45, talked to Entertainment Tonight about how shooting the adventure film Those Who Wish Me Dead was 'very healing' for her.The Oscar winner was 'drawn' to the film's character - firefighter Hannah Faber who suffers from PTSD - and playing her taught Jolie how to 'stand back up,' she shared. The 45-year-old star has Maddox, 18, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. She is fighting with Pitt over custody of the five younger kids as Maddox is an adult and can choose which parent to spent time with. But it wasn't the physical side of playing PTSD-stricken fire fighter Hannah Faber in Those Who Wish Me Dead that drew her to the project. It was the chance to depict someone getting back up after being left 'broken.'She told ET: 'I am drawn to people who have been through something and are broken and then find their way forward and overcome it.'As an artist, it's very healing to play people like that. She's been very healing for me, because you just get so broken and then you stand back up,' the performer added.'[Hannah is] a very broken person who carries a great deal of guilt.' In the film, smoke jumper Hannah takes it upon herself to try and protect a 12-year-old boy (Finn Little) who witnessed a murder and Angelina insisted the story is more than just a 'thriller'.She said: 'On its surface, it feels like a great thriller, a great adventure across an unusual terrain inside a great fire. Underneath it, it's a really emotional film. It's about people who have a great impact on each other and change each other. Emotionally and practically, they go through the fire.'The By the Sea filmmaker recently admitted she had returned to acting and taken on the role because her split from Brad meant it wasn't fair on her family for her to take on long directing projects for the time being. She said: 'I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that's not made it possible for me to direct for a few years.'I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs. That's really the truth of it.'
Earlier this month she said she relished getting 'pretty beaten up' while making Those Who Wish Me Dead. 'There's nothing about this character that trained in martial arts or did anything special. I get pretty beaten up through this,' the Tomb Raider star explained. In the film she has to wear a 70lb firefighter suit at times. And playing an expert smoke jumper - the name given to specially-trained firefighters who parachute into the blazing wilderness - gave the brunette beauty more respect for firefighters the longer filming went on.She told Entertainment Weekly magazine: 'The first day we were in the fire, [I noticed] the heat and how quickly the winds would change and how quickly the fire would suddenly take to a tree that you weren't expecting.'Our respect just grew day after day for these people on the front lines and how difficult this work is.' While Angelina has been acting since she was just seven years old, she believes her decision to turn to directing in recent years has improved her performance by giving her a new perspective. She explained: 'In very technical terms, I'm more aware of what the director needs, and what other challenges they're facing, and how many different pieces are moving.' And as a result, she had a lot more patience and appreciation for the difficult stunts and set pieces in the movie. She added: 'Maybe when you're younger and you're having a huge day where you have to be cold and wet and emotional and crying, you're thinking about those things.'Now you've directed and you're older, and you realize that while you are going to be freezing and crying, there's also pyrotechnics going on, or multiple other situations. It pulls you out of yourself.' And Angelina couldn't suppress her maternal instinct on her latest job as director Taylor Sheridan had to call her out for being too nice on camera to Finn Little's character, Connor Casserly, who her alter ego was tasked with protecting.Angelina said: 'My character is not maternal by nature. Sometimes Taylor would correct me because my behaviour towards a child was different from [Hannah's] behaviour towards a child. It took me a little bit to treat [Little] badly, but I got there!' The filmmaker previously admitted she thinks she's 'lacking' in the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home parent. She said in February: 'I was never very good at sitting still. I feel like I'm lacking in all the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home mom. Even though I wanted to have many children and be a mom, I always imagined it kind of like Jane Goodall, traveling in the middle of the jungle somewhere. I didn't imagine it in that true, traditional sense.'
The film hits theaters and HBO on May 14.

Jon Voight says he would 'love' to be cast in an Angelina Jolie film: 'She would be tough'

Don't expect Jon Voight to retire anytime soon — he's waiting for the perfect role in an Angelina Jolie film. The 82-year-old Academy Award-winner opened up to Ben Mankiewicz on CBS Sunday Morning, reflecting on his film career, his political views and a dream partnership with daughter Jolie, 45. "You have to be proud that your daughter followed in your footsteps and is so good at this, not just as an actor but as a writer, director, too," said Mankiewicz. In addition to scoring a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the 1999 film Girl, Interrupted, Jolie has directed six films including First They Killed My Father (2017) and In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011). "Yeah, she's really remarkable," answered Voight. "She's got her own thing, man. She's got her own way of dealing with things, you know? She's very clear." As to whether Voight has interest in acting under Jolie's direction, he laughed. "She would be tough! But yes, of course, I would love to work with her." A hypothetical partnership would follow their acting collaboration in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. However, the relationship between Voight and Jolie has wavered — last year in a written New York Times article, the actress remembered her mother Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007, while noting her troubled marriage. "When my father had an affair, it changed her life," wrote Jolie. "It set her dream of family life ablaze. But she still loved being a mother. Her dreams of being an actor faded as she found herself, at the age of 26, raising two children with a famous ex who would cast a long shadow on her life. After she died, I found a video of her acting in a short film. She was good. It was all possible for her." Jolie and Voight were also estranged for a long time— the actress was a toddler when her parents split and communication with her father was inconsistent during adulthood. In 2002, Jolie legally changed her name to omit "Voight" amid claims that Jolie did not allow Voight to see his grandson Maddox. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jolie responded by stating: ”I don’t want to make public the reasons for my bad relationship with my father…. After all these years, I have determined that it is not healthy for me to be around my father, especially now that I am responsible for my own child.”.However, in 2010, Jolie's then-husband Brad Pitt encouraged a reconciliation that sparked a new relationship. “He’s been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time,” Jolie told Vanity Fair of her father in 2017. “I had to do a therapy meeting last night and he was just around. He knows kind of the rule—don’t make them play with you. Just be a cool grandpa who’s creative, and hang out and tell stories and read a book in the library.” In the CBS interview, Voight, a fierce supporter of former President Donald Trump also defended his personal politics, which he shares on social media and through professional projects. Voight's latest film Roe V. Wade, about the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion, has been criticized as propaganda with "poor production." "I'm a conservative, as you know, and I'm not so happy with government involvement in anything," said Voight. "I'm very concerned about our country. I'm very concerned about this attack on free speech. I don't like it that we can't sit down and talk about everything. We're all unique. There's no one that's different or better or whatever it is. We all are unique."
