Angelina Jolie opts for a stylish black cut-out dress as she heads to her new studio with daughter Vivienne, 15, after hiring her as an assistant

Angelina Jolie cut a stylish figure as she stepped out with her daughter Vivienne to head to her new studio in New York City on Thursday. The actress, filmmaker and humanitarian, 48, looked undeniably chic in a black cut-out midi dress while leaving her hotel in the Big Apple. Angelina was joined by her teenage daughter, 15, who donned a purple T-shirt and taupe wide-legged trousers. The pair were seen entering Jean-Michel Basquiat's final New York Apartment and Studio in Soho after signing an eight-year lease on the property. Angelina has been spotted in New York several times in recent days, following news earlier this month that she had joined the Broadway-bound production of the musical The Outsiders as a lead producer. The short-sleeved item showcased the brunette beauties toned and tattooed arms, and she wore it bra-free. She flashed some flesh thanks to chic cutouts in the dress highlighting her sides and back. Angelina wore her long blond-highlighted brunette locks cascading down her shoulders with a side part, which framed her cool black sunglasses. She carried a black jacket on her arm, along with a quilted black clutch, and she stood tall in pointy black heels. The By The Sea writer, director and star completed her look with small gold-framed diamond earrings. Angelina appeared to be heading out solo, but she has been seen earlier this month in the company of her children, including her 19-year-old son Pax and her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne. It's not clear if her other children will be joining her in New York City, as she was seen arriving at JFK Airport earlier this week with just the two flanking her. olie's sighting on Wednesday with Vivienne follows news that she has hired her daughter as an assistant on The Outsiders.According to ET, Vivienne will be Angelina's volunteer assistant, presumably meaning the daughter of the wealthy actress won't be paid. 'Viv reminds me of my mother [Marcheline Bertrand] in that she isn't focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives,' Angelina told the outlet via a statement. 'She's very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.'
A source added that Vivienne 'loves musical theater' and that she and her mother have been going to productions 'since she was a little girl.' The Outsiders is inspired by the film of the same name, which was co-written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, as well as the novel of the same name by S. E. Hinton, who co-wrote the film's screenplay. The movie divided critics at the time, though it has been more warmly received in recent years, and it is considered a key text in the filmography of the 'Brat Pack,' a group of young actors who often starred in coming-of-age films in the 1980s, several of whom became major stars. The Outsiders was a who's-who of soon-to-be A-listers when it was released in 1983, and its ensemble cast featured Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Emilio Estevez, C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio and even Tom Cruise, who had a small role. The musical premiered on the West Coast at the La Jolla Playhouse earlier this year, and a source told ET that Angelina and Vivienne 'both fell in love' with it upon seeing the show. 'Angelina and Vivienne subsequently met with S.E. Hinton, who was around Vivienne's age when she wrote the novel,' the insider claimed. 'As a result of seeing the show and the conversation with S.E. Hinton, Angelina was inspired to take a role as a lead producer for the upcoming launch on Broadway.' So far, a premiere date and a cast for the Broadway edition have not been announced. 'I hope to be able to contribute while continuing to learn from this amazing team, who I have been working with since my daughter brought me to see the show at La Jolla Playhouse,' Angelina said in a statement earlier this month. 'I can't begin to express how excited I am for this musical to make its Broadway debut and look forward to sharing this new adaptation of The Outsiders with the world.'
