Jordanian cartoonist Emad Hajjaj, famous for his spot-on satirical political and social cartoons, criticised Arab artists in a new doodle this week. The cartoon was inspired by Hollywood starlet and humanitarian Angelina Jolie's visit to Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Turkey, which marked the fifth anniversary of the tragic Syrian War.Hajjaj's drawing compared a what he portrayed as a "humble" Angelina and her efforts for a better world, to a "shallow, fame-crazed" Arab singer. However, the infamous cartoonist's caricature, titled "Angelina Jolie," wasn't quite accurate. The caption above the award-winning actress's drawing reads, "Angelina Jolie lives through refugees' suffering." The second caption reads, "Meanwhile, an Arab singer lives in a crazy people's world."t's easy to criticise Arab celebrities for their lack of involvement in international human rights issues, but it doesn't make it fair for Hajjaj to make such a comparison. While the brilliance of Jolie's humanitarian work cannot be disputed, let's not forget that she is an international figure with an overflow of high-profile contacts and access to resources that have allowed her to carry out this type of work for many years now. Hajjaj, don't overlook your local talents' charitable gestures while turning a blind eye to the dozens of Western celebs whose only concern is cash in on their fame.If you're happy to sing Jolie's praises, don't ignore the Arab artists who are doing their fair share as UN Goodwill Ambassadors, such as Lebanese starlet Nancy Ajram, Palestinian superstar Mohammed Assaf, Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama and Tunisian actress Hend Sabry.

Actor Lisa Haydon is all set to adopt a brand new avatar on screen with her next film, Santa Banta Pvt Ltd. The actor, who will perform some high octane stunts in the film, has her character’s look inspired from popular Hollywood fiction, Lara Croft, which starred Angelina Jolie in the lead. The film’s director Akashdeep Sabir says looking at Lisa’s body structure, Lara Croft seemed to be the perfect inspiration. “We were shown references by our designers and there were various options on the table to choose from. Keeping Lisa in mind, we obviously felt that Lara Croft is the best reference,” Sabir says, adding: “Lisa visited my office while preparing for the role, and on a couple of occasions, we had the team around and did test shoots in various options. We eventually realised that our first gut feel was our final unanimous choice.” Although Lisa has done very different roles before this, the filmmaker believes that she has done a fabulous job in the film. “We feel she is perfect for the role and has done a very good job. In fact, the film’s action director Ravi Dewan said that we should plan more action films with her. Lisa is a sweetheart ... so unlike usual heroines, and such a free-spirited soul,” Sabir says.
